Spark Power, a trusted partner in energy in North America, is looking for a Health and Safety Coordinator to join our Alberta team. The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies, conducting risk assessments, developing, and implementing safety procedures, providing training to employees, investigating incidents, and continuously improving the safety culture within the organization.

What will you do as a Health and Safety Specialist at Spark Power?

  • Engage with the functional business leaders within the organization as their health and safety resource.
  • Responsible for occupational health, safety, and injury prevention to ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Conduct site visits to provide HSE guidance, assess risk, inspect and maintain COR certification.
  • Assist with implementing and developing Spark’s Health and Safety Management system, including safety plans, assessments, procedures, corrective action plans, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Incident Investigation of all incidents to determine their root causes and implement preventive measures.
  • Provide coaching to employees on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the proper use of safety equipment
  • All other duties as assigned.

Do you have the Spark? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably majoring in Occupational Health and Safety with a minimum of 2-5 years of related experience.
  • Electrical experience is considered an asset
  • ACSA internal Cor auditor certified.
  • Knowledge of all applicable Health and Safety Legislation and Regulations and the demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the legislation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to present information to diverse employees.
  • Experienced in incident investigations, Taproot training would be considered an asset.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with site personnel.
  • A valid driver's license with proof of a clean driving record (MVR) is required.
  • Ability to travel to specific construction sites regularly.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and decision-making skills.
